The INDEPENDENCE Model

Who is Tim?

Under the supervision of physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and speech language pathologists, and with support from nurses, The INDEPENDENCE Model (TIM) utilizes rehabilitation assistants to encourage patients to gain independence in caring for themselves. This holistic, patient-centred and team-based approach targets mobilization, communication, swallowing, cognition and overall function. Patients are taught to regain and maintain their ability to walk, brush their teeth, shower, eat, use the toilet, speak and think, starting from Day One.

This project will run as a pilot on the SPH Medicine units from November 23, 2021 to August 31, 2022.
